This high school football recruiting is vital for colleges. They must get the most talented players they can. This is necessary if they want to remain competitive and be seen as possible college championship winners. College football buffs follow the process with eager anticipation particularly for the top players.

College coaches know that their programs will only improve players skills so much. They must get the best players if they want to be competitive and be seen as possible contenders as college champion winners. This makes for a vigorous campaign to entice their targeted players. This is a very important component that helps the premium institutions stay at the top and the other institutions get better and move up in rankings. The higher the rankings are the easier it is to attract the cream of the crop of players.

While the players skill and talent are necessary and the major consideration they also must satisfy a few other criteria. They must have achieved a minimum academic level that satisfies eligibility to college. Depending on the position the player plays recruiters will also be looking for a minimum size.

The recruiters start their search on the internet. They identify the players to target from websites that show the profiles of the students and sometimes include videos of their performance. Recruiters would attend games of top performing schools. Also, athletes can contact the colleges that they are interested in and let their interest be known.

There is an umbrella organization that controls college football. It has guidelines for recruiting school athletes it also stipulates fines and penalties as punishment for not following the guidelines.

Colleges start to court the athletes early so that they may become familiar with the colleges program and develop a preference for it. According to the NCAA recruiting rules college camp brochures and questionnaires may be given to freshmen and sophomore high school players. Junior players can get recruiting materials by mail starting September 1 of that school year and one phone call from the recruiter between April 15 and May 31.

Between July 1 and before the start of the season off campus contact is acceptable in the senior year. After September 1 of the senior year recruiters are allowed to get in touch with the players once per week but no authorized visits to the schools until after the start of the senior players classes.

National Signing Day is usually the first Wednesday in February. This is the first day that a senior may sign a National Letter of Intent for college football. This means he has signed a binding agreement to attend that college and that college will give him a scholarship. The player may no longer be courted by other colleges. Players may commit to a college of their choice at any time but they can still be courted by other colleges and change their minds until they have signed a National Letter of Intent on or after National signing Day.This is the culmination of high school football recruiting.
